Estradiol patch is a form of hormone replacement therapy that may assist with symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.[1] The patch delivers estradiol, a form of estrogen, directly through the skin and into the bloodstream, providing a steady release of the hormone. This method of delivery may help achieve higher blood levels of estradiol compared to oral estrogen.[2]
Estradiol patches are applied in different ways depending on the manufacturer, including to the skin of the lower abdomen or buttocks and are replaced according to the prescribed schedule, usually once or twice a week. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the best location to apply your patch and the frequency to replace your patch. The patch may assist with both vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes, and genitourinary symptoms associated with menopause. Additionally, it may help prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women by assisting with maintaining bone density.[2][3]
