Trazodone is a prescription medication that may assist with major depressive disorder. Trazodone belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonin receptor antagonists and reuptake inhibitors (SARIs). It may help balance the brain’s levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates activities such as behavior, mood, memory, and gastrointestinal homeostasis. By inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, trazodone may help alleviate depressive symptoms and improve mood.[1][2]
In addition to its antidepressant properties, trazodone may also assist with insomnia.[3]
