Simvastatin Tablet (Each) †
† commercial product
Simvastatin might lower cholesterol and lower risk of cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes. Simvastatin, which belongs to the statin drug family, inhibits an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver known as HMGCoA reductase. By By inhibiting this enzyme, simvastatin might lower the output of low-density (“bad”) lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol especially. Reducing LDL cholesterol levels could help to stop plaque from building up in the arteries, therefore preventing atherosclerosis and heart disease. Simvastatin might also somewhat raise levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, which might help with lipid profiles and lower the risk of cardiovascular events.
